SATSANG |
SatsangSat means Truth and sang comes from Sanga and means assembly or gathering together. During a Satsang we gather together in Truth - the never-changing source that lives and expresses itself through all existence and also through us. The purpose is not to get anything, we already have to much (of ideas and concepts), but to remove or see through that which is changing and has no existence of its own. To see who we truly are. To discover what we already are. The One without a second. Practically this is done by being mirrored by a teacher who lives this Truth. To see yourself in the teacher's silence. This could be done just by sitting in silence with a teacher, being guided step by step to your own source, or by asking questions to remove doubts.
A satsang can happen in many ways. Sometimes you just sit together in the silence and that is enough. Words seem unnecessary or you can't even find any or even think. There is just openness and the Presence takes over everything by its intensity. Sometimes it is about being guided by something like Ramana Maharshi's self-inquiry (who am I?) in order to see who is experiencing something specific or where the thought or the emotion came from. Some other time it could be more philosophical like to see that everything is impersonal and you are absolutely powerless and you can't do anything about it. Everything is happening without your doing. Now and then there is someone that has an acute problem that needs to be seen from a deeper perspective or an emotional wound that is in the way and needs healing. Every teacher has her/his own way of giving satsang and it also depends on which people that come and what is happening in the present moment. It is about being open and to see that it is not possible to know anything in advance. You cannot blame anyone for your situation and everything is just as it is this moment - you can't do anything about it. In this there is both freedom and powerlessness. It is also about what you really want. What is your heart longing for most of all? Do you dare to be completely honest and to say exactly how it is for you? A satsang generally last for a couple of hours and is completely freestanding. Sometimes we sing bajans. Sometimes we meditate. The whole thing is improvised and governed by the need of the moment. In the West you usually pay a specified fee and in India the satsang is supported by donations. MeetingsLife is about meetings. You as an individual is the result of a love meeting between your parents. You search for yourself in meetings with other people. You meet yourself in the beaty of nature and when you stop. You search until you realize that you are that which you are searching for. In the end you give up and let go of the seeker. You are ready to recieve life as it is. When you are completely open, just for a moment, life will take over. You meet yourself by being out of the way for life. In satsang we meet in Truth. The diversity, the different individuals, reach beyond the limitations and are united in oneness, the source. |
